The Institute of Natural Resources and Land Planning (INDUROT) is a University of Oviedo centre constituted in 1985 with the main objective of promoting and developing scientific and technical applied research on land-use planning, natural resources and the environment. INDUROT is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach, which promotes the joint participation of professionals from diverse fields of experimental and social sciences, humanities and engineering.
The involvement of all these experts on applied research to environmental issues has favoured the development of highly integrating and holistic working methodologies, as well as many documents and projects with immediate application at a regional and local scale.
INDUROT was a pioneering centre in the development of cartographic databases and the application of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques to natural resources management, natural hazards modelling and land use planning. The Institute is nowadays integrated by a multidisciplinary team of lecturers and scientific-technical staff in 12 different units of research: Plant conservation and protected areas, Wildlife conservation and management, Natural Resource Management and Spatial Planning, Applied Fluvial and Coastal Geomorphology, Ecology and GIS Design and Analysis, Environment and Natural Resources Economics, Statistics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Law, Environmental Geochemistry, Communication and Environmental Education, Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering.
INDUROT has a wide experience in the design of territorial, environmental and spatial planning instruments and the development of territorial and natural risks analyses in both environmental and socioeconomic terms. The experience and knowledge acquired throughout 36 years of activity has enabled to become a benchmark in the design of planning policies and environmental management tools.
The Institute currently participates in regional, national and european projects (including Interreg, LIFE, H2020 and horizon Europe programs).
